# Overview

Scannable codes let customers quickly start the registration process using their mobile phones.

Convenient mechanisms for customers to initiate product registration improve registration rates.

# Types of Scannable Codes

# QR Codes

QR codes are commonplace fixtures on and in product packaging. They embed information, such as a Web URL, into a scannable format supported by most mobile phones. Customers scan a code in order to automatically launch an action, such as opening a browser and navigating to a site.

The codes you generate in QuickReg® can also be incorporated into product tags that you create. QuickReg® supports Web QR Codes and SMS QR Codes.

# Web QR Codes

The most common form of the QR code used in QuickReg® is one that links to a webpage, such as your brand's main landing page or a specific product page. While a QR code can embed any text information, QuickReg® supports three formats:

  • Home page: take the customer to the main landing page for your brand on QuickReg®.
  • Model-specific: take the customer directly to a registration form that already has the model identified.
  • Unit-specific: you can create QR codes that embed the model and the serial number of a specific item.

# SMS QR codes

You can create codes to launch an SMS messaging client on a mobile device.

NOTE

You must have the SMS channel enabled and approved to produce these codes.

There are two formats for SMS Codes:

  • QuickReg® short code: Launch the user's default messaging app with the QuickReg® short code (784574). Each customer will then need to enter a keyword to proceed with registration.
  • QuickReg® short code plus keyword: Launch the default messaging app with the QuickReg® short code and a product keyword.

# RFID Codes

RFID tags use a technology called Near-field communication to allow a device, including many mobile phones, to read information embedded in the tag. They are easy to use but less well-known to end customers than QR codes. Support for RFID tags is coming.
